Adaptive Learning system
The current adaptive learning system is implemented as a shared region module, that is used for the backend services in our teacher control panel. The web application allows teachers to write messages to all students or kick them out of the virtual world, when they should return to their class room.
Teachers can also change student passwords and see a region map showing were each student is in the virtual world. The region map can be displayed in a browser on the class room smart board for all to see or the teacher can just have it on his/her tablet.
Future plans for the Adaptive Learning System
We are working on an adaptive learning system that logs students chat, responses to pools and in world quiz answers to help students by guiding them towards relevant study matarial for the subjects they try to master.
The current implementation only logs all chat to ensure a safe learning environment, but the next step will be to index it and try to apply some machine learning to the behavior of the students, so the system can suggest students alternative study material or paths to go.
We have developed a Heads Up Display (HUD) that gives students the option to write questions in-world that are visible to all students, so that students better can assistant each other. But in the future we will implement easy access to study material and study groups in this web application.
